Generative Grid

A photo that builds itself out of a grid - dashed cuts split the frame, blurry pieces land tile by tile, then the whole thing comes into focus.

A photo that builds itself out of a grid, like it's being generated.

The grid is just one rectangle cut in two, and then each half cut again, a few levels down. Every cut lands at a third, a half or two thirds, which keeps it looking like a layout and not like broken glass. The dashed lines are those cuts, drawn in the order they were made.

Each tile then gets its piece of the photo, still blurred. They fill in outwards from one random spot, so it feels like something is growing rather than loading. Once they're all in, the full photo sharpens over the top.

Everything is stored as fractions of the frame, so you can switch the aspect mid-run and the same grid just stretches to fit. Press play and you get a new grid and a new photo.
